In September 2024, we hosted the first Politics of the Multiracial Right Symposium, which brought together scholars, journalists, and organizers to help interpret the political dynamics behind the growing number of communities of color being drawn into right-wing politics.
The events of the three-day symposium included a discussion with the conservative journalist, pundit, and communications consultant Sonnie Johnson, who unpacked the growth in Black conservativism; a full day of panels with leading scholars and journalists whose work focuses on the multiracial right; and a final panel with grassroots organizers and leftist political strategists who reflected on the panel discussions in relation to their organizing and advocacy work on the left.
The event was sponsored by the Institution for Social and Policy Studies (ISPS) and the Yale Center for the Study of Race, Indigeneity, and Transnational Migration (RITM).
